Introduction

As I was contemplating the compilation of an introduction to my practice, the ethos of my conduct and the identity of my provision, I came to acknowledge that a generic solution did not exist, since every individual reading this, necessarily has different needs, emotional identities and affinities of relation.

The core of my practice’s ethos is therefore the essential exclusion of stereotyping, rather to acknowledge, respect and solve the unique, individual aspects of the difficulties, challenges, contributing factors and/or parties of each case, by:

  • Offering an unbiased, non-judgemental and confidential environment in which to witness the individual’s account of and experience of the case history;
  • Establishing a holistic view and approach to –
    • Acknowledging and exploring the
      • factors,
      • influences and
      • parties

which, knowing or unknowingly, form a part of or contribute to the cause and may or may not be invited to involvement in the solution;

  • Determining which modalities, guidelines and life skill to imply and or/impart by mutual participation of the individual and the counsellor;
  • Finally reaching a conclusion at which the individual is equipped, comfortable and able to apply the outcomes holistic solution (gained from the participation in counselling).

The individual and counsellor ultimately enter into a professional relationship whereby the counsellor offers the empathy, support, guidance and life skills required by the individual to be actively involved in solving the challenges or difficulties necessitating the counsellor’s assistance.
